[attr="class","hdinformation"]Upon one’s first glance at Birchwood Academy, it would appear to be just like any other high school. The grounds are well kept, the building is large and mostly clean, and the students bustling about seem rather content. The surrounding area of Glendale is a large city full of shopping centers, parks, and plenty of things to do. There are hiking trails and lush forests to explore just outside the city boundaries.
The appearance of the school itself is not unique, it’s the students that make this school what it is. Birchwood Academy is a rehabilitation center that specializes in the most troubled of teens. Often times, students are straight out of a juvenile detention center. Most of the student population though falls within a ‘non-threat’ category. These students are here for varying issues whether it be slight behavioral problems, disabilities, or students that are searching for a way to bring their grades up. The students in the ‘threat’ category only make up about 15% of the student populous, and these are students with violent tendencies. These students are not segregated from the main student body, but the school isn’t just letting dangerous kids walk around. Teachers and staff are trained to defuse dangerous situations as well as intervene if necessary. There are security guards scattered throughout the school, though most days are rather dull.
The experience at Birchwood Academy is mostly made up by the student. If someone is truly dedicated to bettering themselves, they succeed at the academy. Students that refuse to accept the help they are given or start fights, often struggle within the academy.
