While his family wasn't exactly high ranking, they held a position vital enough to which they all required a watchful eye. Due to his surroundings, Iosif grew up pretty indifferent to things like death, drug use, and all sorts of violence. It was a norm for him, which seemed rather unfortunate for a child.

It wasn't until he was about 6 years old that his parents had another child, a son by the name of Ulrich. Growing up, Iosif was expected to protect his brother. And this meant doing whatever it took to make sure the boy was carefully protected. Unfortunately watching over Ulrich meant that he neglected a lot of his own issues. Within that time, he'd managed to fail at least three grades. But he wasn't too bothered by it, it meant he'd be able to keep a closer eye on his brother. His parents weren't too happy with his failure, but they did gradually get over it. They'd eventually settled in Washington. Due to the distance, they aligned themselves with a different crime syndicate. However the syndicate in question still had ties to their original group, so all was forgiven. The family began working for the Order of Ronova, an organization spread throughout the United States that had ties to both the Italian and Russian mafias.

Iosif and his brother went to a school where the levels were combined into one big school. And unfortunately in his sophomore year, he was already getting into all sorts of fights, making sure his little brother was safe. Family was a big thing where they grew up, so he was quick to retaliate when it came to Ulrich. However after a careless mix of chemicals and the science wing catching fire, Iosif had taken the fall for his younger brother. And while the school wanted to press charges to both him and his family, they decided that since no one had been injured, they could let him off the hook. However with the absences and fights Iosif had accumulated, there was a condition. They'd drop the charges completely if the family agreed to send him to reform school.

It was only natural they did that. Iosif was shipped off to Birchwood in the middle of the year. And while it was an attempt to fix his wayward behavior, as the board of education referred to it as, he only dug himself deeper in Glendale. Not only did he get involved with a few thugs, but he was more than happy to be their drug and weapons runner. But while he may seem stupid at first glance, he's far from it. He's managed to keep his work a secret thus far and plans to for quite some time. After all, he has quite the income pouring in from his work.
