[attr="class","hdinfo"] Bastien's mother taught ballet classes and enrolled him at a very early age, from the time he entered it was apparent he had a passion and a talent for the art. His mother, who was herself a wonderful dancer, was ecstatic with her son's love for ballet. The years of ballet were an incredibly strong bonding experience for Bastien and his mother, as his father was often far too busy with work to attend any of Bastien's recitals or to show much interest in the hobby. Bastien's mother on the other hand, supported him fiercely, going to every recital and lavishing him with anything he needed for the program. However, all good things must come to an end. By the time Bastien was ten years old, his mother had succumbed to a brain tumor, became weaker and weaker over time and eventually unable to teach, drive Bastien to classes, or even attend recitals. Though she couldn't be there in person, she would have a family friend record the performances so she could watch them later in her hospital room when Bastien came to visit. After the passing of his mother, Bastien became extremely withdrawn and in time, difficult to control. Prone to violent outbursts, Bastien became too much of a terror for any baby sitter or nanny to put up with. His father handled the loss only slightly better, putting him at odds with Bastien most of the time. Putting a huge strain on their already fragile relationship, Bastien and his father couldn't stand to be around one another when they truly needed each other the most. Bastien kept up with his ballet studies as he felt a strong connection to his mother through the art. While his skill and potential increased, so did his contempt for other dancers. He developed a snotty attitude towards class members who he deemed not good enough to dance with him and often bullied the other children because he took the poor talent of the others as a personal offense against his mother. The true breaking point for Bastien was his father's decision to pull his son from the ballet course. He professed that he wanted to spend more time with his son, rebuild their relationship. Though in truth, Bastien's father hated seeing his son preform ballet because it was unbecoming of a boy, in his opinion, and only reminded him of his late wife. Bastien was distraught and made a huge scene, screaming and sobbing when his father told the new teacher he would be removing Bastien from the school. In the end, Bastien had to be forcibly removed by his father because he refused to leave his mother's old dressing room. Bastien's acting out became worse and worse, his grades suffered and his bullying nature got him in trouble time after time. Eventually Bastien crossed the line in the school cafeteria by assaulting another child who mocked his love of dancing. Something in the boy snapped and Bastien took his lunch tray and slammed it against the other boy's head, giving the other boy a concussion and ending with Bastien being expelled. Not knowing what else to do, Bastien's father sends him to Birchwood Academy, hoping the school's program may do some good for his son. |
