[attr="class","sinbody2"]Classes had ended several hours ago. Iris hadn’t returned to her dorm immediately to start on homework, even though it was beginning to pile up. She had wandered the school grounds for a while, trying to find a reprieve from her relentless thoughts and anxieties. This hadn’t really worked, however, considering that about an hour into her walk her homework became one of the anxieties. For perhaps the first time in her life, Iris’s grades were beginning to slip. It was hard for the girl to describe exactly why this upset her so much, considering it wasn’t exactly the most important thing going on her life.

Of course, it was important though. She needed to make good grades and somehow get into a good university. And then get a degree, a good paying job, and get her siblings back. Wasn’t that about her only option at this point? Her brother had pulled through many times before but… it was very possible that this would end up being one too many times.

With these thoughts in mind, the junior had returned to her dorm to do some homework. She got the written stuff done rather quickly, however, when she opened up her laptop to get her online homework, she found that it simply wouldn’t finish the booting process. It got stuck after she entered her password, and it had stayed that way for a good forty-five minutes. The computer had been running exceptionally slow lately, but it had at least been running.

She chewed her lip as she looked at the clock. The library would already be closed. She could have asked Alyssa to use her laptop, but she didn’t want to put the other girl out – especially considering she probably had the same homework due. Iris picked her phone up and shot a couple of texts to the only person she could think of that might be able to fix it. When he responded and told her to come to his dorm, she packed everything up and arrived at his door about ten minutes later. Her knuckles rapped against it gently and then she waited.

While in the bathroom brushing his teeth, Pony Boy picked up on the ringing of his phone coming from the other room. Spitting out the frothy toothpaste, Pony walked out and checked his desk for his phone... It wasn't there. Groaning in irritation he began picking up papers and clothes in a frantic attempt to find it, a quest which ended in him burrowing underneath his bed and pushing himself into quite the uncomfortable position. Looking at the phone, he grinned widely as he saw Iris' name light up on the screen.

"Yo, girl, what's up?" Pony chimed in as he answered the phone. Not bothering to get up out of the floor, he laid in the cramped position partway under his bed and used his phone's flashlight to examine the contents shoved into the dark abyss around him. Listening to the girl's lament over her broken computer, he tried to figure out what could be wrong with the operating system. "Uhh.. I can only think of about a thousand reasons your computer is fuckin' up... This kinda thing is hard over the phone." He tried not to grunt weirdly as he adjusted his position under the bed, pulling a dirty shirt out from under the bed and tossing it into his laundry hamper. "Is there anyway you can drop it off for me to check out? I think that'd be the easiest solution." He waited for a moment to hear Iris out, she'd agreed to meet him shortly to drop off the computer for repairs. "Aight, that's good! See ya then."

Pony tapped the lock button on his phone to disconnect the call. Iris was a nice girl, more book smart than anyone he'd ever met... Not to mention pretty cute... But she didn't seem to understand much about computers. Pony pretty much considered himself eternally in her debt because she helped him out as a tutor on a regular basis. She was a little hard to warm up to the idea of tutoring him, since that was technically what got her into the mess in the first place, but she was kind enough to agree to it anyway. Pony had promised he'd never do anything like trying to get her to do his work for him or anything of the sort. To be as slacker minded as he was, Pony really did want to improve. Especially if he was gonna stay interested in engineering, seeing as how math and such was such a big part of that. He knew he couldn't go into anything half-assed as far as that went.

Cleaning up his room in the short amount of time it took Iris to find his dorm room was one hell of a task. He wasn't the cleanest person when it came to picking up after himself. Clothes and electronics were laying about in bits and pieces. Pony always tried to at least keep a method to the madness that was his room. The room was only about half clean by the time he heard that tell-tale knocking at his door. Frantically shoving this laundry basket into the closet and making a quick run by the bathroom to spray on some deodorant, Pony checked his appearance in the mirror... torn up skinny jeans, black crop top with the phrase "set phasers to Love Me" across it, and his hair was disheveled as always.

"EH, it's fine." he mumbled to himself and left the bathroom to answer the door.

"Hey, girl!" He beamed at her as he opened the door wide for her to enter. "Sorry for the mess."

"Aight, let's see what up with yer laptop." Watching Iris look around, he took the laptop and initiated the start up procedure. He noticed instantly, the loud laboring fan... He'd bet his life that was one of the issues with the performance of the machine. Continuing on for the password input, Pony asked Iris to log in. After doing so, Pony saw that the laptop seemed to run hotter and hotter, the fan still blowing out hot air until finally clicking off. "That's weird..." Checking the screen once again, he saw a message pop up saying the fan was not detected followed by the computer shutting down completely.

"Hm... Okay, first glance here... I'm thinking yer fan is busted." He stretched back in his chair for a moment before hunching over and flipping the laptop upside down. "A busted fan is gonna make your computer automatically shut down with a newer model like this. It's to keep the hard drive for scorching." But honestly feeling how hot this thing starts up, I'd say it might already be in pretty bad shape." I'm gonna have to open it up and see what I can do.

Having flipped the laptop over, Pony opened one of the desk drawers and pulled out a small screw driver and set to work on unscrewing and removing the bottom case for the laptop. Popping the laptop open...

"Jesus, Iris." He as appalled by what he saw. "This is kind of a mess. How long as this thing been running hot?" He waved her over. "Look at the hard drive, dude, it's burnt .. Jeez..."

"Okay see when yer fan starts running slow and yer computer starts getting really hot. You gotta clean the fan. If ya don't, ya run into situations like this..." Idly licking his lips, Pony leaned back in his seat and thought over the possibilities for the situation.

"Aight, yer fan is pretty much dead, but I have a replacement I think should work for it." He glanced back at the young woman. "You said it gets stuck after the boot up process too... So.... I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but yer hard drive might be dying."

"I'm gonna go ahead and replace your fan, and see how that runs for you."

Pony Boy seemed to tune just about everything else out as he carefully removed the computers fan and opened another drawer to the left of the desk. Rummaging through the various computer parts he set out a hard drive onto the table as well as a fan that was about the same size and model of the busted one. Comparing the two fans together, he set to work screwing the new one into place and snapping the laptop bottom into place and carefully turning it over.

"Okay, put in yer password and see how it boots up." He pulled away to allow Iris to input her password. "I'm pretty sure yer hard drive is busted, so if it gets to the desktop at least, I can transfer your information onto an external drive and then replace your hard drive for ya."

[attr="class","sinbody2"]Iris’s arms were wrapped tightly around her laptop, pressing it against her chest as she waited for the door to be opened. It took very little time for Pony to get to the door. She smiled brightly at him as soon as it was open. “Heyyy~” She greeted back, taking a step into the dorm once he’d stepped back to allow her to do so. She handed the laptop over without really looking at him. Instead, her gaze swept the room. It was… well... a mess. There was no way that the blackette could live in it, but then, she didn’t have to. She only had to sit in it for a bit while Pony looked at her laptop. In any event, however, it took a lot of her self-control to keep from saying something.

The girl crawled onto his bed after he sat down and began opened up her laptop. Her shoes were left in the floor as she drew her knees up to her chest, chin resting on them as she watched him. Her brow furrowed as she listened to what he had to say. A fan? She had no idea that computers had fans in them. Of course, she could easily gather that it was to keep them cool. She pouted a little bit as he continued to speak, explaining how she was supposed to clean the fan and wondering how long it had been running hot.

“Ever since my brother got it.” She stated vaguely. There was no need to mention that the laptop had been stolen from a man who fell asleep on the L, right? No need at all. Pony didn’t need to know that. Of course, Iris hadn’t even erased anything on the hard drive. The computer was still in the man’s name and everything. She’d just logged him out of everything and logged into her e-mail and social media instead.

She nodded to him as he told her that he would be replacing her fan. She watched carefully everything that he did. She committed the steps to memory. In theory, once he was finished with everything, Iris also had the knowledge of how to change a laptop’s fan. Of course, being able to write a paper over changing the fan and actually changing the fan were two different things.

Oh well, everyone had their own strengths.

“Kay…” She murmured, reaching for the computer. She typed in her password and watched the screen. Loading…. Loading…. Loading…

She frowned at him. “Don’t think it’s gonna.” She murmured softly, disappointed. There wasn’t much on the laptop to lose – except for some half-written essays. Oh well.

"Yeah..." Pony grimaced at the loading screen as it never seemed to progress. "Sucks yer gonna lose that work but I'm pretty sure this is busted." Sighing and stretching his arms in the air, Pony forced the laptop to shut down and unplugged the charger before flipping the laptop over. "Aight, I'm just gonna pop the bottom off this thing and see what's up."

Opening the top drawer next to him, Pony Boy pulled out a small screwdriver set and worked on loosening the bottom of the laptop's casing. He carefully picked out each screw and dropped it into an empty cup next to the laptop. With a quick snapping sound, the bottom of the laptop came off and Pony inspected the interior... To be honest, Pony wasn't quite sure what to say when he was greeted by sand, a dead bug, a fan which clearly hadn't worked in ages, and a burnt hard drive... But it was safe to say the emotion he felt was something akin to horror.

"J-Jesus.. What? I'm.." He looked over to the girl sitting on his bed then looked back to the partly dismantled machine. "Okay, okay." He gathered himself and placed the laptop cover off to the side. "So I gotta clean this thing out.. There's like, an obscene amount of dust, dirt, and sand in here. I honestly don't really know how this thing hasn't caught fire yet."

Pony Boy gently pulled at the ribbon in the laptop to ease the burned hard drive from it's sad home in the mess of dirt and dust. Popping it out, he placed the hard drive next to the cup of screws then set to work at removing the motherboard for safe keeping and then unscrewing the fan. The fan was in pretty bad shape, covered in dust and just miserable to look at. Without much thought, he tossed it into the trash and retrieved a new fan from the drawer beside him. He sat the replacement down and picked the laptop up and turned it over to dump what he could of the filth out into the trash bin. Shaking it gently, he frowned as the contents sifted out and into the bin below.

"I'll be right back." Pony mumbled as he sat the laptop back onto desk and picked up the hard drive. Scooting his chair back, he stood up and disappeared into his closet.

"I should have a hard drive i can replace yours with." He spoke sort of loudly for Iris to hear as he dug through a small plastic filing cabinet "This one's a wreck, totally burnt, I doubt there's any saving it." Looking through each drawer, Pony grinned when he finally came across a hard drive. Standing up, he pushed the drawer together and stood on his tip toes to reach a can of compressed air in the top of the closet then returned to his seat at his desk.

"This is an old hard drive of mine, but I cleaned it off, except for the OS, and kept it in case of somethin' like this." He set the hard drives down and set up the air canister for work, sticking the thin red straw into the nozzle and taking a couple of old bandannas from the drawer. "Yer gonna wanna cover yer nose and mouth with this. There's really no telling how much dust I'm about to get outta here." Tossing her one of the old cloths, he tied his own around his face to cover everything from the eyes down.

With the first puff of air, dust flew out of the laptop making Pony wince again. He decided not to speak as he felt that the flying dust spoke for itself. Several minutes passed with little eruptions of dust and dirt from the laptops innards before finally it seemed that the laptop was decently clean. Pony Boy set the can aside and worked on installing the new fan and hard drive. He looked up to Iris after he finished snapping everything into place and screwed the bottom back onto the machine.

"Well I feel like I just preformed open heart surgery on your laptop." He grinned and turned the computer over and opened the lid. Of course he was greeted by dirt and debris which had fallen from the keyboard onto the computer screen. Rolling his eyes, he sprayed down the screen and keyboard then wiped the screen with a cloth for good measure. "It should run fine now..." Reaching for the charger, he plugged the computer back in and started it up. Untying the bandanna from around his face he shook it out to ensure it was clean of dust and placed it back into the drawer as the computer booted up.

"Okay, so the OS is already installed so it should come right up." No sooner than he spoke, the laptop came up to the intro screen. "Okay, now I just gotta set you up an account so you can log in."

Pony seemed to more or less zone out as he did this, there wasn't much information she could give him at this part. Tapping away, he input her name and picked a sort of cute little icon for her profile as the default and continued on to the desktop. He opened his mouth to speak but closed it again and decided to do a quick look over of the files to make sure he hadn't missed anything previously.

He hadn't formatted the drive so of course stuff was technically still accessible.. But he highly doubted that Iris had the skill to go in and recover the deleted files.. But she was awfully cute and he'd hate to be shamed in her eyes so he wanted to make sure, not that he'd had anything too terrible on the laptop. It had been general stuff, some embarrassing old drawings or selfies, music scattered about in various places. Though there were some more private folders which were his main concern in his check at the moment. After a few minutes, everything was as expected, the hard drive had turned up clean.

"Aight, girl." He smiled smugly as he turned her laptop towards her. Though he knew the feat wasn't all that incredible, he still felt rather accomplished given the mess that was inside of it. "Say hello to yer new computer."
